Immersion Yoga Teacher Training

New Mexico Yoga Teacher Training Vinyasa Yoga Alliance

Awareness Heals

Cultivate awareness in yourself first so that you can facilitate an experience of transformation for your students.

Format – Two 11-day intensives – 180 contact hours + 53 non-contact hours (in other words, 53 hours of homework!)

Roots & Foundation

90 hours – November 2-12, 2015 $200 Deposit + $999 + tax, Tuition = $1199 + tax total ($100 discount if you pay in full 1 month in advance)

The first module in our 200 hour program will be devoted to what we believe is the foundation of your career as a yoga teacher – your personal practice. Therefore we will work on alignment

in poses, the History of Yoga, and personal growth and inner reflection. Many opportunities will be provided to discover what you truly value in life and how you relate to the world, so that you can teach from an authentic place of self-knowledge. We will touch on the beginnings of how to teach a class, sequencing basics, and practice teaching each other and the module will culminate with your first practice session teaching the general public.

The Art of Teaching Yoga

90 hours -April 2-12, 2016 $200 Deposit +  $999 + tax, Tuition = $1199 + tax total ($100 discount if you pay in full 1 month in advance)

The second module in our 200 hour program will focus on the nuts and bolts of teaching a class including but not limited to advanced sequencing, teaching beginners, teaching pregnant students, creating sacred space in the classroom, teaching privates, the business of yoga and more. We will also study deeper the Tantric roots of Yoga and some Tantric meditation practices including Chakra meditation, mudra and mantra.

Both modules are required to receive your RYT 200. You may take modules individually for personal growth and development. Please consider this 200 hour program an Introduction to the topics listed. 200 hours is nowhere near enough time to fully teach anyone the complexities of the yoga tradition. It is merely the beginning of your yoga journey and will give you the basic tools to develop your own home practice and to begin to teach basic classes from a place of heart.

Philosophy of Program and Orientation

Our aim in this program is to give you the tools and opportunities to experience transformation and personal growth within yourself. The study of yoga is endless. Hopefully you will be studying it from now until the rest of your life. 200 hours is only the tip of the iceberg and we don’t intend to try and squeeze everything in here or teach you every single pose or every piece of information. We stress quality over quantity. We intend to give you a strong foundation, a platform upon which you build your practice of yoga. By giving you a thorough experience of yoga, the cultivation of your personal practice will naturally bloom.

We absolutely teach you a strong anatomical foundation. Shiva has been a licensed massage therapist since 2004 and a registered massage teacher since 2008. She has owned a massage school and was formally trained in Structural Integration (similar to myofascial release.) However anatomy will not be the focus of this 200 hour training. Anatomy will be used as a vehicle for understanding proper alignment and safety, insofar as it serves your personal practice.

What makes this training different?

Shiva Reinhardt with her teacher Shiva Rea

There are so many yoga teacher trainings available now, it’s good to check the background and references of any yoga teacher training you are thinking of attending. What I look for in a yoga teacher training is an experienced teacher with whom I really connect — someone from whom I know I can learn. I encourage anyone thinking of taking this training to come up and experience a class with Shiva. She teaches M, W, F 9am-10:30am Heated Vinyasa Flow and Wednesday 5:30pm Pure Bliss Yoga.

Shiva Reinhardt has been teaching yoga since 2001, and studying yoga since 1998. She is an E-RYT with thousands of hours of teaching experience. She is also always first a student. She has been studying over the years in person with Ana Forrest where she received her 200 hour Certification, Shiva Rea where she received 300 hour Prana Flow Certification, and Dr. Vasant Lad where she studied Ayurveda and Panchakarma. When she cannot travel for training, she studies online extensively with many top yoga teachers including Christina Sell and Christopher Hareesh Wallis. Yoga is a study and practice that never ends and a large part of this training is simply to inspire you to love yoga enough to dedicate yourself to the lifelong study and practice of it.

This Yoga Teacher Training is registered with the Yoga Alliance.  This allows those who graduate from our program to apply for the designation of S01-YA-SCHOOL-RYS-200Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) which is the gold standard in the yoga industry and will be quite valuable when you are looking for a job teaching yoga (especially in a competitive marketplace) as it is recognized nationally and internationally.

While this training meets these minimum requirements and we have jumped through the hoops set forth in order to have these designations, the training never becomes a dry, or rote experience. Shiva honors the living pulse of yoga in every breath, every transition, every asana, every moment of life. Yoga is not asana. Yoga is a practice in the mind and body of coming to peace with everything just as it is, of cultivating freedom in every cell, of unifying all the disparate threads of the mind together into harmony. Asanas are useful in this process.

Personal Transformation

We structure our program so that you have ample opportunity for self reflection and growth. This usually includes change, and during change some people experience “growing pains.” Even good change can sometimes feel uncomfortable when we are treading into new territory. Some students find that a few of the exercises we do in class can be extremely transformative and even challenging. Because of this we recommend that you have support outside of the training to help you process some of the content that may arise during the course of our self inquiry and self investigation. For some people, a trusted and close friend is enough. Others may choose to have the option of counseling or therapy to help them process through this material. Shiva is also available at any between classes or after class if you need to speak one-on-one with her for support. While this training is not specifically targeted towards enlightenment, it is a topic we discuss and the following quote points towards something important.

“Enlightenment is a destructive process. It has nothing to do with becoming better or being happier. Enlightenment is the crumbling away of untruth. It’s seeing through the facade of pretense. It’s the complete eradication of everything we imagined to be true.” –  Adyashanti

Just like in asana we must experience some level of discomfort through the alchemical process of transformation in order to change our physical body from how it is now to how we envision it, the same is true of our mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.

“No one can say exactly what makes a yoga class great, but we might agree that it’s a combination of skilled asana sequencing and breathwork. Clear instructions. A pace that is comfortable for a wide range of levels, and a teacher who holds the space with sincerely and integrity. This last bit is crucial. Students need to feel safe to go inside themselves and inquire, have their own experience. Teachers can facilitate this process by being honest and taking time to connect with students, not just bark cues.” – from Poems for Yoga Class by Lee Gjelsvik

Yoga Teacher Training: Destination Within!

Massage Therapist and Yoga Teacher Training dual certification

This 200 hour yoga teacher training will immerse you in the study and practice of yoga as well as give you the tools to lead others into the experience of yoga.

Yoga means “to join” or “unity.”

“to tie the strands of the mind together”

“to attain what was previously unattainable”

“acting in such a way that all of our attention is directed towards the activity in which we are engaged”

ShivaPrayer01Teaching is not about saying spiritually inspirational or profound things in your classes. It’s not about appearing smart or yogi-like. It’s not even about leading your students through a well balanced physical practice, although if you’re a good teacher, all of those things will probably happen in your classes. Teaching yoga is about creating a sacred space in your classroom and in your heart in order to be able to facilitate the experience of “yoga” in your students. While ultimately this experience of yoga is unitive consciousness or dharana “meditative awareness,” for beginning students it may simply mean being aware of their body and breath while they practice asana, or yoga poses.

Teaching yoga also means being aware of your body and your students’ bodies in the most detailed way possible — first and foremost to keep them safe, and secondly to help them progress in the poses. In today’s modern world many people come to yoga to get a workout or to heal their body and these are good reasons to practice yoga. AND as yoga teachers we want to always be ready for that moment when awareness dawns and use guiding language (or know enough to leave them alone) to always hint that our self is not a mind, a body, and a heart, all separate. We are a mind-body-heart, a being from which you cannot separate each part.

As a teacher, always know that when you are helping a student get into a deeper backbend and open their heart, there is always an emotional/spiritual correlate happening at the same time.

Please plan to give daily attention to Yoga during your 4 month break. This large amount of homework is assigned in order to help you establish a daily focus on the practice and study of yoga.
